First Church of Christ, Scientist, Elsah, is a branch church of
The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts.
Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science, founded The Church of Christ, Scientist in 1892. She designed the church "to be built on the Rock, Christ; even the understanding and demonstration of divine Truth, Life, and Love, healing and saving the world from sin and death; thus to reflect in some degree the Church Universal and Triumphant." (Church Manual 19).

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES
The Sunday service includes hymns, a solo, prayer for our congregation, and the Bible Lesson Sermon. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, designated that the Pastor of Christian Science churches should be the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
Sunday healing services begin at 10:30 am.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Students' first lessons are the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer and its Spiritual Interpretation by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Sermon on the Mount. Students also learn through questions and answers about the weekly Bible Lessons.
Students up to the age of 20 are welcomed at our Sunday School which meets each Sunday at 10:30 am, the same time as our Sunday Service.
TESTIMONY MEETINGS
Readings from The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures set the tone for the meeting. The second half of the meeting is for the congregation to share testimonies of God's healing presence in their lives.
The Testimony Meeting is held each Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
READING ROOM
Located at 17 LaSalle Street, Elsah, our Christian Science Reading Room is part of our church's public outreach. All are welcome to come and ask questions about Christian Science, study the Bible, or use the Reading Room as a quiet place to pray or study Christian Science.
A lending library is available or you may purchase Bibles or Christian Science literature including the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
The Reading Room is open Monday-Saturday 9:00 to noon and Sunday 1-3 pm.
